Huntingtower Castle or Ruthven Castle took its name from the Ruthven family of Perth.
The first tower house dates from around the 15th century then a second was built a few yards away.About two hundred years later the two buildings were connected with the building between the two.
Around the end of the sixteenth century, a group of nobles, including Lord Ruthven, kidnapped King James VI and held him captive for ten months in Ruthven or later to be renamed Huntingtower Castle.
